85-95 Llansawel Crescent wins at the LABC Neath Port Talbot Building Excellence Awards 2020 in the category for Best Change of Use or Conversion.
The work carried out at Llansawel Crescent, Briton Ferry on behalf of Tai Tarian provided much needed additional housing within the area. Prior to refurbishment the outdated building was used as council offices and a day care center. The outdated and tired disused office block was in a poor state of repair and would inevitably be demolished if new plans were not proposed.
Developing new homes is a priority within the construction industry due to the growing national shortage, however new builds are not always the answer. Across the UK there are numerous vacant buildings, adapting and converting current stock and disused buildings into habitable spaces is possible with careful planning. This not only provides essential housing but also provides a new lease of life/lifecycle to these forgotten buildings.
